SUPERB NICHOL GUIDES 2'S TO CRUCIAL ST PAT'S WIN
The GGPL side moved out of the relegation play-off position for the first time this season last night, after a hard fought victory over St Pat's FP. Goals from Chris McKenna, Shane Jamieson and Man of the Match Fraser Nichol gave Clyde 3 crucial points as they attempt to climb the GGPL table and out of relegation danger.
Next up for the 2's this Saturday are Bishopton on the famous slope.
2 IN A ROW FOR GGPL SIDE AFTER 4-0 ORCHARD WIN
The 2nd team made it two league wins in a row after outplaying an ill-disciplined Orchard Parkmount side at Stepps. A speculative Kev Thomson strike was misjudged by the Orchard keeper who fumbled the ball into the net after 5 minutes. Despite Orchard increasing the pressure, the Clyde backline led by Chrissy Shaw and Scott MacKenzie stayed rock solid and the visitors frustration soon led to the dismissal of their winger for a deliberate kick on Jordan Galbraith.
Early in the 2nd half, Clyde were awarded a penalty which Man of the Match Dave Pennycook expertly converted. OPA were then reduced to nine men after another player saw red for having strong words with the referee. Jordan Galbraith then got his name on the score sheet with a well taken third before Chris McKenna added a 4th.
The result sees the 2's remain in 10th place, however they are now level on points with Partick West and a point away from EK United as they fight to avoid a relegation play off.
CALEY SIDE UNLUCKY AT MILTON
The 1st team lost 4-1 away to Milton yesterday, however the scoreline certainly wasn't a fair reflection of their performance. After taking the lead through a Callum MacIver strike before half time, Milton were awarded what appeared to be a very soft penalty in the opening stages of the 2nd half with Willie Fox adjudged to have handled deliberately in the box. Milton converted the penalty and went on to score an impressive second soon after to complete the turnaround.
Clyde should have had a penalty themselves after a Milton player appeared to handle in the box, however the referee waved away the claims. In their efforts to find a way back into the game, Clyde began to fatigue and Milton added two more goals in the last 10 minutes to add some gloss to the scoreline which was extremely harsh on the visitors. However Clyde can take heart from their effort and endeavour which will be crucial in the bid to avoid relegation.
1ST TEAM EDGED OUT BY HURLFORD IN SCOTTISH CUP
Strathclyde 1st team pushed Ayrshire side Hurlford all the way in yesterday's last 16 Scottish Cup match at Stepps but suffered heartache as they were narrowly beaten 3-2 to end their dream. After falling behind, Clyde equalised through Calum Murison before captain Stevie Lynch was sent off for a deliberate hand ball in the box. Hurlford then converted the resultant spot kick however Clyde fought back with an excellent Graeme Anderson goal to restore parity again. Sadly, Hurlford were awarded another spot kick on 70 minutes and converted, winning them the match and sending their large travelling support home happy.
A great cup match with Strathclyde showing that they can match the most reputable amateur teams in the country. Good luck to Hurlford in the Quarter Finals.
1ST TEAM MAKE SCOTTISH CUP HISTORY
The Caley side made history on Saturday as they reached the last 16 of the Fosters Scottish Amateur cup at the expense of Hillington. Robbie MacLeod, Niall Hamilton and Calum Maciver scored as Clyde won 3-1 at Toryglen. They will now await the draw with huge anticipation, knowing that a win will take them to the quarter finals. Full match report available here:
2ND TEAM SURVIVE LUTHERMUIR FIGHTBACK TO PROGRESS
The GGPL side are through to the 5th round of the Scottish Cup after beating Luthermuir 3-2 at Stepps, despite a spirited fightback from the visitors. Having rushed into a 3-0 lead in the 2nd half, Luthermuir scored 2 goals to start nerves jangling and the Aberdeenshire outfit nearly snatched an equaliser in the dying secons. However, Man of the Match Scott Wightman put in a fantastic last ditch challenge to secure Clyde's passage. The victory means that the 2's will face Greenock High School in the next round at Stepps.
Elsewhere, the 3rd team were worthy 2-1 winners away to Garnethill in the GDSML. The 1st team had their Scottish Cup cup tie against Perth outfit Inchture postponed due to a frosted pitch and will play the match next Saturday.
SATURDAY ROUND UP (20.11.11)
All 3 teams were at home yesterday for their respective fixtures, however they didn't all deliver positive results. The 1st team easily disposed of Blantyre in the West of Scotland Cup with a thumping 6-1 victory. Braces from Niall Hamilton, Ceej Murison and Robbie MacLeod secured their passage to the next round.
The 2nd team suffered more late heartache in their GGPL match against Bishopton. After falling behind 2-0, the 2's showed great fighting spirit to level the match in the last 10 minutes thanks to goals from Donald McKay and James Aitken. However, Bishopton promptly marched up the field to score a 3rd goal and take the 3 points.
The 3rd team lost 4-1 to an organised Kilpatrick side in the GDSML. The visitors took the lead through a penalty on 15 minutes and added 3 more in the second despite a consolation goal.
"WHOPPER WEDNESDAY" DELIVERS MIXED RESULTS (16.11.11)
It was a mixed bag of results yesterday for the 3 Strathclyde teams competing in the BUCS League. The 1st team secured a crucial and hard fought victory over RGU 1's to keep their title challenge alive; an own goal securing the result. The 2nd team didn't fare so well however, as they were defeated by Heriot Watt 3's at Stepps. Two fine Armand One strikes secured the points for the visitors, with the result putting the 2's title challenge in serious jeopardy.
The 3rd team showed great character to come back from 2 goals down to draw with Aberdeen Uni 3-3 in the Granite City. Goals from Chrissy Shaw and Mark Cassidy ensured that Dave Baruffati's men maintained their 100% record and remain in a great position to win the league.
CRUCIAL GAMES FOR 1's and 2's in 'WHOPPER WEDNESDAY' (15.11.11)
Tomorrows "WHOPPER WEDNESDAY" sees two crucial matches taking places for Strathclyde teams in the BUCS league. The 1st team face RGU 1's at home in a must win match to ensure that they can maintain any title challenge. Manager Tam McLaughlin told SUFC that "a win would be priceless in our hunt for Aberdeen's spot at the top".
Ewan Mowat's 2nd team are at home to Heriot Watt 3's at Stepps in the other vital game. Mowat is under no illusions as to the importance of the match. "To win the league we should be looking to take maximum points from now until the end of the season". Full reaction to both games will be on the site tomorrow.
SCOTTISH CUP 4TH ROUND DRAW
The draw for the 4th round of the Fosters Scottish Amateur cup was made today, with both Strathclyde sides avoiding each other. The Caley side were drawn away to Cramond AFC, who play in the Edinburgh West League. The GGPL side will travel to face either Arthurlie United or Luthermuir AFC from Aberdeenshire.
1st TEAM INTO 4TH ROUND AT EXPENSE OF SHAMEFUL KIRKCALDY
The Caley team are into the Scottish Cup 4th round thanks to a Robbie MacLeod brace. However, they had to overcome a Kirkcaldy side that resorted to complete thuggery rather than football. Niall Hamilton was spat on by the Kirkcaldy goalkeeper at the final whistle; the final disgraceful act from a team who were slammed by their own manager after the game. The draw for the next round takes place this week.
GGPL SIDE CONCEDE LATE GOAL TO DRAW WITH WINDLAW
The 2nd team had their first GGPL victory snatched from them in the final moments against top of the table Windlaw at Stepps. Par Johansson opened the scoring with a fine goal on 60 minutes, however Windlaw grabbed a late late equaliser with a header from a free kick. The draw sees the 2nd team get on the scoreboard with their first point of the season.
CALEY TEAM DEFEAT JOHNSTOWN IN REPLAY
The 1st team secured a hard fought victory over an organised Johnstown side in their Scottish Cup replay, winning the match 2-1. A Ceej Murison strike and an unlikely goal by Ally Gillies secured the victory, with Man of the Match Matt Miller ensuring that the Clyde rearguard were only breached once by their dogged opponents. The win means that Paul Cross' side will travel to face Kircaldy Rovers in the re-arranged 3rd round tie,
2nd TEAM SURVIVE GOUROCK GOALFEST TO PROGRESS
The 2nd team are into the 4th round of the Scottish Cup, but only by the skin of their teeth after a THIRTEEN goal thriller in Gourock. With a seemingly comfortable 4-1 lead at half time courtesy of a superb Calum Sinclair double and strikes from Rob West and Fraser Nichol, Clyde added a 5th early in the 2nd half to extend their lead.
However, the events that followed would have even the most seasoned of football enthusiasts rubbing their eyes in disbelief, as Gourock fought back to level the game at 6-6 in the 90th minute courtesy of mishaps more appropriate on a pantomine stage than a football field. However, with the game heading to a certain replay at Stepps, Man of the Match Sinclair rolled the ball home from an acute angle to secure a remarkable victory. The match report will follow.
AITKEN BAGS HAT-TRICK AS 2'ND TEAM EASE THROUGH
James Aitken hit a quick fire treble as the 2nd team defeated Cumbernauld outfit Independent AFC 4-0 in the Scottish Cup 2nd round at Stepps. 'Sidwell' scored all of his goals in the opening 20 minutes, as Strathclyde got their revenge on the same side that had inflicted a 3-0 defeat on them a fortnight ago in the West of Scotland Cup.
Allan Campbell added more gloss to the scoreline with a well taken 4th goal in the last 5 minutes, and sealed a first victory fo interim manager Mike MacKenzie. After the game, 'Bassett' said "Today was excellent. We were organised, kept our shape and blew them away in the first half". News on the next round and match report to come.
WEDNESDAY 2'S IN DERBY ACTION TOMORROW
Euan Mowat's 2nd team make the trip to Garscube tomorrow to take on fierce rivals Glasgow Uni in the Uni League tomorrow afternoon. 'Mubs' will be looking to maintain his side's 100% record this season in what is undoubtedly his biggest match as manager, and has a strong squad that will be pumped up from the word 'Go'! The 1st team take on Abertay at Stepps on the back of their 15-0 demolition of Edinburgh last week, whilst the 3rd team take on neighbours Caledonian Uni in the other derby match.
WEDNESDAY 1'S DISH OUT CAPITAL PUNISHMENT
The 1st team got their season well and trully under way, as they knocked FOURTEEN goals past a hapless Edinburgh Uni side. Graeme Anderson hit the target 4 times, whilst Euan Wheeler, Brian McKay, James Aitken, Calum "Buff" Dunn and Robbie "Barnes" Macleod all scored in the goal-fest at Peffermill. Goalkeeper Jerome Ogor also kept a clean sheet on his debut, however he won't have an easier 90 minutes than this in his career.
Manager Tam McLaughlan was delighted with the result and has urged his troops to take this form into the remainder of the season.
Elsewhere, the 2nd team secured a fighting 2-2 draw against Heriot Watt 2's whilst Dave Baruffati's 3rd team continued their excellent start to the season, with a 4-0 victory over St Andrews at Stepps. Match reports to come.
3 SQUADS IN THE UNI LEAGUE THIS WEEK
All 3 Wednesday teams are in action tomorrow in the BUCS league. The 3rd and 2nd teams are at home to St Andrews and Heriot Watt respectively, however all eyes are on the 1st team who make the trip to the capital city to face Edinburgh Uni 4's. Despite a narrow defeat in the curtain raiser against Dundee last week, manager Tam McLaughlin is confident of a result and has a strong squad making the trip. Goalkeeper Dave Paterson is absent and will be replaced by Jerome Ogor; Matt McGuire makes a return as does Robbie McLeod who is playing his first Wednesday game of the season since returning from injury.
2's KNOCKED OUT OF WEST
The 2nd team were knocked out of the West of Scotland Cup by Independent FC at Stepps yesterday. The visitors secured a 3-0 victory, however the scoreline was perhaps slightly harsh on Clyde. Interestingly, the two sides meet next week in the Scottish Cup, where the 2's will have revenge on their minds.
2nd TEAM OFF TO FLYER IN SCOTTISH CUP
An almost completely new 2nd team got off to a flyer in their first competitive game together, with a superb perfomance and victory over Ayrshire outfit Crookedholm in the Scottish Cup. However the match was abandoned after 70 minutes in somewhat farcical circumstances, with the referee being subjected to constant foul and abusive onslaughts from the opposition bench and having no other option than to stop the game and award the result to Strathclyde.
The drama didn't take the limelight off the new squad though, who played some very attractive passing football in wet conditions and knocked in 4 impressive goals from scorers Fraser Nicol (2), Kev Thomson (pen) and Stuart Gammie. Man of the Match Kev Thomson's match report is here.
3rd TEAM EDGED OUT BY RENFREW
The GDSML side fell to a narrow defeat against Renfrew at Stepps, despite controlling the game for large spells. A defensive slip up gave Renfrew an early lead, however Clyde battled straight after. However, they failed to carve out any guilt edge chances and the away side took all 3 points. There were many positives to take from this game; the main being that the squad was made up predominantly of freshers who had never played together before. The future is bright...onwards and upwards!

Caley side luckless at Dalziel (18/09/11)
The 1st team lost 3-2 to Dalziel despite a teriffic 1st half fightback in Motherwell. After going 2 goals down, Clyde levelled before half time with two goals in 5 minutes from the returning Ally Gillies and Ross Wilson (Pen). Clyde had the opportunity to take the lead in the 2nd half when Graeme Anderson was scythed down in the box, with the Dalziel defender receiving a straight red. However Ross Wilson missed the resultant spot kick and to add insult to injury, Dalziel scored a 3rd goal that proved to be the winner.
3rd team lose to Ashfield (18/09/11)
Strathclyde's morning team lost 1-0 to Ashfield at Glasgow Green, despite creating numerous chances. Ashfield took an thelead when Mike MacKenzie allowed a 25 yard shot skid under him into the corner. It proved to be the only goal of the game, despite the efforts of Clyde who created chances but lacked the cutting edge to get something from the game. Match report here
Walker sees red as 3rd team lose curtain raiser (12/9/11)
The 3rd team lost their opening encounter of the 2011/12 GDMSL season. After falling behind on the 10 minute mark, Clyde had an even bigger mountain to climb following the dismissal of Max Walker for a second bookable offence. It appeared that Walker had actually won the ball, however the referee promptly gave the captain his marching orders. Clyde conceded the killer second goal 5 minutes before half time and despite a spirited 2nd half showing, they ultimately lacked the conviction to salvage a result.
Strathclyde 4 - Milton 3 (10/9/11)
Strathclyde picked up their first 3 points in the Caledonian Premier League with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Milton, the side which had inflicted a 6-2 defeat a month ago in the League Cup. Having gone into the half time interval 2-1 down, Clyde put themselves further on the back foot early in the second half after conceding a soft 3rd goal. However, a Calum Muirison double and a dramatic winner from Euan Wheeler gave the side and manager Paul Cross a much needed victory. Match report here
MacLeod out for at least 6 weeks (28/08/11)
1st team striker Robbie MacLeod is expected to be out of action for at least 6 weeks, after tearing ligaments in his ankle following a challenge against Glasgow Uni. Robbie - or 'Barnes' as he is known as SUFC - has been on crutches since, with doctors estimating that he will be ruled out for as long as 8 weeks. Speaking to strathfc.co.uk, the powerful forward said "I'm gutted to be out for so long, I just want to get back and start scoring goals for Strathclyde! I'm seeing the physio on Tuesday, so hopefully that starts me on the road to recovery".
Barnes misses this weeks fixture, as Clyde travel to face Giffnock in the Caley league in a bid to banish the memory of their horror show against Drumchapel.
Strathclyde 0 - Drumchapel AFC 5
Strathclyde were comprehensively beaten today at Stepps in the third game of the Caledonian Premier League. Despite a positive opening spell where Clyde created chances and stretched Drumchapel's defence, they ultimately failed to to test the opposing goalkeeper. Drumchapel had the ball in the net for a 6th time during the game, however it was ruled offside.
Wednesday sees Clyde face Milngavie in the League cup, where a vastly improved performance will be required.
Strathclyde - 2 Glasgow Uni - 2
The Glasgow Derby ended in a stalemate at Stepps tonight, as Strathclyde twice came from behind to draw with rivals Glasgow Uni. After falling behind, a Stevie Lynch penalty levelled the scores at half time and despite falling behind again after the break, Matt Millar ensured a share of the spoils with a bullet header from a Calum McIver cross. There was concern though as Robbie Macleod was taken with an ankle injury following a rash challenge. It is hoped that he will be fit for Saturday
The result sees Strathclyde score their first points in the Caledonian Premier League this season, with Drumchapel being the next opponents.
Strathclyde 0 Westerlands 3 (13/08/11)
Saturday saw the start of the 2011/12 Caledonian Premier League campaign for the Clyde 1st team, who faced Westerlands at Stepps. However it was a bad day for Clyde, who lost 3-0 despite an improved second half performance. Next up is a derby match against Glasgow Uni at Stepps, which will present the squad with their biggest test to date.
Freshers Week 2011
